UABA Versatile CompanionThe Versatile Companion Award was created to celebrate the dogs proving themselves as true companions through performance, teamwork, and trainability across multiple venues and sports. This award is designed to encourage participation from owners actively enjoying life with their dogs while showcasing the breed’s adaptability, intelligence, and versatility, recognizing that a dog does not need to be a show dog to be exceptional.
To earn the Versatile Companion Award, a dog must have earned:
A minimum of Eight (8) titles in at least three different sports. At least two qualifying titles must be earned through the AKC*, UKC, or CKC*.
Eligible titles may include, but are not limited to, obedience, rally, agility, dock diving, lure coursing, trick dog, scent work, weight pull, and other approved companion or performance events.
*Please note that any AKC/CKC sport/performance titles submitted must be accompanied by proof of Spay/Neuter in accordance with AKC/CKC rules.
Once these achievements have been earned, you may apply for the UABA Versatile Companion recognition by clicking the link below - or scrolling to the bottom of this page - and filling out the form. Copies of all titles must be submitted alongside the application for club verification. A recognition certificate will be emailed to you once verification of your achievements has been processed. A physical copy of the certificate can be purchased and mailed for $10.00, or can be picked up in person at the next UABA Specialty at no cost.
All dogs earning the UABA Versatile Companion recognition will be publicly recognized on the UABA website, along with the year in which the recognition was awarded. Once earned, the titleholder will remain permanently listed on the UABA Versatile Companion Registry, regardless of any future changes in the owner’s membership status.

No. The Versatile Companion recognition was developed to recognize dogs in companion homes by offering a higher tier goal for them and their owners. Dogs that participate in conformation are still eligible to apply if they meet all requirements; however, exhibitors who also compete in conformation may find the Versatility Award more appealing.

No. Titles may be earned across multiple organizations, provided the dog meets the minimum requirement of at least three different sports and includes at least two qualifying titles from AKC, UKC, or CKC events.

At this time, AKC/CKC require all dogs earning titles through the Canine Partners/Canine Companion program to be spayed or neutered. The UABA respects this requirement; therefore, any AKC/CKC performance or sport titles must be accompanied by proof of spay/neuter in order to be counted toward this recognition or listed on the website.

Yes. SPOT and similar temperament or manners-based titles may be used toward the requirements for this program; however, only one (1) title of this type will be accepted.
